Email timeeeee

This week was great. It was my birthday and an Apostle visited Ghana.

Tuesday was my birthday and I want to say thank you to everyone for all of the wishes. I turned 20 years old.😵‍💫 It was really just a normal proselytizing day, but for lunch we went to KFC and one of our members made us some delicious Jollof rice for dinner.

In the past weeks we have been preparing some friends for baptism. There are two small girls named Kezia and Esther. They are pretty hard to teach sometimes because all of the kids around that like to join the lesson and make noise. Another one is a woman named Elizabeth. Her husband is a member and she loves the church. The last one is a girl named Mercy. I'm almost sure she has photographic memory because she can quote some of the pamphlets word for word. I asked her how and she said, "I read it once and then I close my eyes and keep thinking about it until I remember it."

Elder Christofferson came to Ghana this last week. Sadly he didn't visit the missionaries but he was able to meet with the president of Ghana. That was really cool to see especially because he gave him a Book of Mormon. King Lamoni???

My time is ticking in Ghana and I'm doing everything I can to work hard and enjoy it. I've learned so much in this past 19 months.

Recap

2/13/23

It's been a while. I've got a lot to update about.

We had the baptism for our friends Joyce, Blessing, and Charity. They are all super cool and it was a great service. That same day we received our transfer news and I heard that I was getting sent to the Odorkor Ward in the Kaneshie Zone. I was pretty bummed to leave Alajo, but I have been there for 7 months so it was probably time. I send my goodbyes all of that next week.

Transfers were delayed a little bit so I didn't leave until that next Friday. We had MLC and Elder Zile, my last companion, came to stay in Alajo for 2 days. We got to proselyte with him and he came to my last midweek too. Elder Vogelsberg replaced me and he's a great missionary so I know that Alajo is in good hands with him and Elder Gemah.

I came to Odorkor on Friday morning and met my companions Elder Heaton and Elder Arthur. Elder Heaton was going home that next Wednesday so we were in a trio for a few days. Those few days were a lot of fun, meeting members and eating a lot of food. Elder Heaton was saying all of his goodbyes and I was meeting people at the same time.

On one Saturday Sister Jacobsen, our Mission Mom, took us to an art market. There was a ton of super cool stuff and I got a few things. Elder Heaton got the legendary zombie mask as a gift from the mission home.

On Monday we went to the beach with our district and it was actually really clean. Definitely nicer than the last beach I went to. We did some flips and bought some cool stuff again. I also learned how to drum from a guy there.

On Wednesday we went to District Council and then escorted Elder Heaton to the mission home. It felt really weird to see someone go home. I felt a small fraction of all of the weird feelings he had that day. I'm coming up on 5 months left so my day is coming soon too.

The other few days in the area have just been working and learning. It's a pretty big area with a lot of people and places to remember. The ward is super cool though. One lady in our ward was on the Family Feud!

Scripture of the Week

I'm a Newtownian now

1/23/23

It was a very very interesting week.

On Tuesday we had our multizone conference. The 3 zones there were Tesano, Kaneshie, and Lartebiokorshie. Elder Gemah and I had the privilege of speaking at the conference about PMG chapter 13. That chapter is all about working with local leaders. We learned a lot when studying for it. Communication is the first step in unity. It was a good conference and I got some more cool ties.

Wednesday was when everything got weird. We got a text from the Newtown Elders saying that there was an argument between 2 Elders in their apartment and that we should come over. That was probably the most vague way to tell us, but we headed over any ways. We weren't sure if the argument was just verbal or if there was any actual fighting, so Elder Gemah and I were talking about every possibility on the car ride there. It wasn't that bad. One of the Elders didn't want to proselyte, so his companion called him immature. He didn't like being called immature so he said he wouldn't proselyte with him ever again. Kinda ironic. I ended up staying in Newtown for the day so that they could proselyte.

The Elder wanted to talk with President, but with our luck, President wouldn't be available until Saturday. I ended up having a 5 day exchange with Elder McKnight and we had a great time.
Here's a list of a bunch of stuff that we did:
-I burned a pair of his pants because I hit my 18 month mark.
-We went to a restaurant called Kclings and got hamburgers.
-We went back to Kclings for breakfast the next day and got eggs and bacon.
-We played UNO and the losing Elder drank 2 liters of water in 2 minutes. (I still don't know how)
-Played foosball with a recent convert and investigator.
-Played more foosball.
-Got jean vests.
-Did a bunch of missionary work.

After 5 days, I'm back in Alajo and the disagreement is mostly settled. I'm happy to be back though, the whole ward probably thinks I'm dead.

Scripture of the Week
Proverbs 14:7 - "Go from the presence of a foolish man, when thou perceivest not in him the lips of knowledge."

Exchanges 🙋🏻‍♂️🙋🏻‍♂️

1/16/23

We had a pretty regular week. Not a lot to say.

I went on 2 exchanges this week. The first exchange was with Elder Patane in Alajo. The day went by super fast because not a lot of our lessons fell through. Elder Patane is Samoan but he grew up in New Zealand and Utah. He is one of our office Elders right now, so it was a good change for him to get out and teach during the week.

My next exchange was with Elder McKnight. This was my 3rd exchange with him so it was a super chill and good day. They are teaching a super cool guy named Elyx and he knows the Bible really well. He knew the scriptures we were using before we quoted them. Good day, fun time.

There was one funny thing that happened this week. We passed by a girl sitting at her shop one day and I had a feeling that we should talk to her, but we kept walking. Later that day we walked past the same place and I bought something from the shop, but we didn't contact her. About 15 minutes later Elder Gemah turns to me and says, "You know something, I feel like we should've contacted that girl." He said that he had the same feeling I did the first time we passed her. We were both laughing and we decided to go back. She was kinda reluctant, but we gave her a pamphlet. We will see if we ever get a lesson with her.

Sorry this email was pretty boring.
